Your immune system is a miraculous machine capable of fighting off colds, viruses and constantly learning and changing. Making sure your body is in the best state it can be is the best thing you can do for you and for others around you. So, where to begin?
I know we bang on about this but honestly a good morning start is the best thing. Simple lemon, Manuka honey, fresh ginger and turmeric gives your body the best start to the day. We also stock a range of supplements to help your overall immunity. I’d had flu in January 2019 and it turned into pneumonia. Constantly drinking and preventing dehydration is fundamental for overall health. Up to 60% of the human adult body is water, so being slightly dehydrated places the body under additional strain it doesn't really need. Drinking plain water is best but if you need flavour, try adding slices of lemon or fresh mint, and citrus fruits like grapefruit to help keep it more palatable. Hopefully that will stop you reaching for juices and squash which just adds too much sugar to your system. We all now know that being overweight is not going to help our immune system. But what we eat can help us in fighting these virus. Sugar is an enemy and it’s hidden in everything. If you’re struggling with your weight try removing it and working out ways to keep your sweet tooth in check. Add honey to a hot drink. Eat more fruit, dried or fresh. Of course with anything sweet you still need to find a balance but to begin with finding out healthy alternatives you enjoy eating will make a massive difference. Eat all the colours you can and adding healthy fats like avocado and fish, like organic salmon, will hep your body work harder and be in a better place. You may even lose a few pounds too—bonus!
Gut health and immunity are very deeply connected. A strong gut will in turn help you maintain a strong immune system. Our ranges of prebiotics are brilliant, but if you want to do this naturally then adding fermented foods to your diet such as live yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi, and kefir will help build up the good beneficial bacteria in your gut. This in turn supports a healthy gut and system.
Do everything you can to reduce stress. This may lie in exercise, meditation and a better night’s sleep.
